Glamping on the Nile: Luxury Tented Stay at Chobe Safari Lodge
Seeing the Nile River for the first time from the patio at Chobe Safari Lodge
Glamping with a view
My very first glimpse of the Nile River was from the deck at Chobe Safari Lodge. It brought tears to my eyes. With all the beautiful places around the world, the Nile has called to me for years. Finding myself standing along the banks of this iconic river felt surreal. It was every bit as beautiful as I’d imagined.
At Chobe Safari Lodge, rooms are available in the main lodge, but I absolutely fell in love with the tent accommodations. Believe me when I say, tent life is a good life at Chobe.
My tented room offered a front patio perfect for sitting and enjoying a peaceful view of the Nile. Inside, there was a full bed with mosquito netting, a sitting area and desk with views overlooking the front patio, and a private bathroom. Golf cart escorts are provided between the lodge and tents.

Getting there
Chobe Safari Lodge is located on the northern bank of the Nile River, inside Murchison Falls National Park. From the Entebbe International Airport, count on at least a five-and-a-half hour drive. Unfortunately, Chobe Safari Lodge doesn’t offer airport transfer services, so you’d have to plan another way to get there.

Best time to visit Uganda
Being close to the equator, temperatures in Uganda remain relatively consistent throughout the year with highs around 85° F and lows around the mid-60s, but the country does experience “wet” and “dry” seasons. The dry seasons [June-September and December-February] are best for viewing animals on safari because warm, dry days bring wildlife out to the watering holes where they are easier to spot.
We visited in July and it was perfect. There were many rain showers and thunderstorms overnight, followed by warm, dry days that we enjoyed exploring in.
Things to do at Chobe Safari Lodge
The beauty surrounding Chobe Safari Lodge invites visitors to do nothing but simply soak up the natural wildness of Murchison Falls National Park.
Grab a Nile Special or your favorite cocktail from the onsite bar and pull up a chair on the lodge patio overlooking the Nile.
Sit on your private balcony and read a book while listening to the sounds of nature.
Or stretch out your legs after the long journey in the onsite fitness center.
Go on a Walking Safari
The grounds of Chobe Safari Lodge are filled with opportunities to experience the wildlife of Africa. For a small fee, an experienced guide will take you on a walking safari right from the main lobby.
With the unpredictability of nature, every safari offers something special, but it’s impossible to predict exactly when, where and what animals you’ll encounter. Even the same safari on a different day will showcase something unique. Some treks will be filled with animal sightings, others will leave you wanting more. Either way, the environment alone is worth the effort.
Our walking safari was absolutely filled with giraffes and, to our delight, the tower of giraffes almost seemed as interested in us as we were in them. We also encountered baboons, warthogs, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and kobs.
Arrange a Day Trip to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
The staff at Chobe Safari Lodge can arrange a day trip to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos, one of Africa’s Big 5 safari game animals.
